forgodssakeerikCharles is an extremely powerful telepath. What, ask you, are his abilities?
from the app:
Charles is a mutant, a human with what's later known in his timeline as the X Factor or X Gene, giving him extraordinary abilities. His mutation allows him telepathy, with the assumed secondary mutation of empathy.
Telepathy is the ability to speak to and control minds. Charles can use this to hear thoughts, respond to a mind or several minds, take control of a mind and use it to see or move the victim's body freely, freeze a series of bodies in a radius and do any number of mind-related things. The possibilities of his ability are seemingly endless. He can tap into a person's mind and "borrow" their language, for example, but it's assumed that he doesn't immediately learn the language - it's more like he's got a superfast internet connection, using it to ask the other person's mind how to say something in their language, and receiving an immediate and correct (as far as the mind in question knows) answer. If someone thinks something is spelled or said a certain way, he'll receive that answer, regardless of whether or not the word is actually correct.
These abilities do not work on animals, past perhaps the ability to read whatever they're thinking.
Empathy is the ability to sense, identify and feel the emotions of the people around oneself. When using his ability, Charles usually picks up whatever emotions are attached to the thoughts or memories, and this can often manifest in his reaction to something. When helping Erik see a memory he'd forgotten, he ends up shedding a tear automatically, moved to sorrow by the reaction of his friend and the weight of the memory. Assumedly, this could branch out to other moments and reactions; he's told Erik that he's "felt what you felt", having gone through his thoughts and memories before. He's generally a level-headed sort, even with this, and though it could be a major drawback if not handled carefully, Charles seems to be able to sort out what the emotion and thought is and what his own emotion and opinion is on the same subject.

-EMPATHY: Can he read/feel your character's emotions, regardless of what the emotion they're showing on their face is?
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Can he hear their thoughts? This can range from "no, please" to "only what they project" to "yes, everything, everything my darling!" That means "can he talk to your character in their mind", "can he hear things they're thinking", etc etc.
BONUS ROUND:
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: He'll likely flutter through memories of people he meets if he gets curious/bored. Would you like him to not, for whatever reason? Or would you like to have certain memories he doesn't access/can't access? Or maybe you don't care/want him to see it all! Just let me know. :3

-EMPATHY: Go ahead! Most of the time it's pretty obvious what her emotion is anyway.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Talking and hearing is all good. She might pick up on the mind reading.

-HISTORY/MEMORIES: He can, and he'll learn that she's older than she looks. Like... maybe about half a century old? She's young for a reaper! I'm just going to say that the things he won't be able to access is most of the time from before she was officially a ferrygirl. Only because there's no specific canon, save for the fact that she had gotten top marks in everything.

CHARACTER NAME: Eliot Spencer
-EMPATHY: Sure! Though you don't need empathy to feel all the paranoia. xD
-TELEPATHY PROPER: The man's been trying to train against mind powers, though mostly control. However you're all clear on that. He doesn't project too much in comments, but if you let me know when Charles does his mind reading I'll write up some projections.
-LANGUAGE: Sure! Eliot knows a few languages aside from English. Hebrew, Italian, Arabic and Russian, and at the very least understands Iranian. He also, probably, knows more but it hasn't been established in canon.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Oh yeah, but there is a major warning. Eliot's done a lot of horrible things, as well as stuff that was part of his time as black ops and other stuff. There hasn't been a lot fleshed out, Damien Moreau is the name linked to the worst of the worst.

-EMPATHY: Sure! Shizu-chan's pretty simple, so usually his expressions match his emotion.

-NOTES: Shizuo is capable of incredible strength and can resist a lot of pain. None of it is 'mutant' or any other kind of ability. I mean, it probably is a mutation of the adrenal gland based off of another character's musings, but that's what causes him to fall into a kind of rage. The strength and pain was built up over the years as products from what happened in those fits of rage.
-QUESTIONS:
CHARACTER NAME: Olivia 'Lily' Walker
-EMPATHY: All clear on this. It'll make her uncomfortable, but not me!

Date: 2011-12-20 06:41 pm (UTC)Eliot - For the most part I play Charles not too terribly involved in someone's mind; he'll listen to floating thoughts and if he picks up on something interesting or the person he's talking to is interesting enough he'll dive in, but I'll ask beforehand. :3 Maybe one day he can teach Eliot how to block it all?
Shizuo - sounds pretty good!
Lily - 83!! though he's known to sputter and//or react hilariously when he's caught offguard re: memories and thoughts.

-TELEPATHY PROPER: Yes
-LANGUAGE: Yep. Yuca knows most languages in use today (though some versions are very dated) and many dead ones.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: HO BOY. Yes, but *see notes
-NOTES: OKAY, SO. Yuca is an immortal via reincarnation who has been around since the dawn of the earth, practically. His constant life has driven him insane, blah blah. Basically, he's seen and experienced so much that he wants nothing more than to die. Any empathy would just be a MASSIVE EXPANSE of misery, so deep you could drown in it. If Charles does meet Yuca (which I hope he does!) I'm not sure how well he'd fare mentally. Other people who've delved into his mind in-game have been pretty horrified/shocked/miserable for awhile afterward. idk.
As for history, with living forever comes a massive amount of memories, and Yuca himself cannot sort through them all (sort of something that leads to his crazy). If Charles tries to look for anything specific, he might find himself in the 1300s or something equally nasty.

CHARACTER NAME: Nathaniel || John Mandrake (
-EMPATHY: Yes
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Yes. He will introduce himself as John Mandrake, but his hidden name is Nathaniel. Though it's taboo for a magician to ever reveal his true name, so if Charles finds it out via telepathy, Nat will be pissed and probably won't trust him.
-LANGUAGE: Nat, like Yuca, knows many different languages, but his are all from study. Feel free to address him in any language you wish!
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Yep! Nat's been through a lot, ask me about any specifics!
-NOTES: Nat's the secretary of the protection squad in Ads. He's also a magician- and by which I mean he summons spirits and makes them do his bidding.
-QUESTIONS: Nope!
CHARACTER NAME: Romulus "Rome" Hart (
-EMPATHY: Yep, but his emotions are very simplistic.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Yes. He has a one track mind though and is not a complex person. Charles is free to discover that he is a werewolf.
-LANGUAGE: He technically only knows German, but communicates in Ads-language.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Of course. All of his pre-Ads memories are during his service in the military. He's lived a long and bloody life.
-NOTES: Rome's a test tube werewolf and has been brainwashed from birth to be loyal to his handlers in the military. His mindset is very animalistic, and he's rather simple.
-QUESTIONS: Nope!
CHARACTER NAME: Regulus Black (
-EMPATHY: Yep!
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Yes. Charles is free to discover that Regulus is dead, as well as the exact circumstances of his death, but Reg will probably hate him if he brings it up.

-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Yeah. Not a whole lot of trauma in Reg's life, he's pretty much the typical Slytherin, just a bit calmer.

-NOTES: Probably the most obvious thing to note about Axel is that despite being smiley and sarcastic he is also sad and acutely lonely most of the time. What feelings Charles can pick up from him will not match his demeanor unless otherwise noted.

-EMPATHY & TELEPATHY: No. Sanae is an Angel, most of his powers are psychic-based, and he keeps secure shields up on account of having quite a few secrets to keep; no one who is not a resident of a higher plane is going to be able to crack his mind. Charles is, however, welcome to notice that he can't read Sanae's mind and draw whatever conclusions he likes from that ~ Language and history, same deal.

-EMPATHY &TELEPATHY: Charles wouldn't be able to read him at all. Minamimoto, with being some weird Reaper/Taboo Noise hybrid, is a powerful psychic/most of and would have quite a few shields. Reapers in TWEWY can't be read by telepathic humans anyway, and I feel like this should count for something despite the mutants in X-Men not being considered human? Language and history is probably the same.

-EMPATHY: He sure won't like this, but I'm okay with it. There is no happiness here.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Again, he won't like it at all.

-TELEPATHY PROPER: Harry has been learning to block people out of his mind, although Word of God says he can't master it because of the whole bit o' soul lodged in his head. So... sure? But with some difficulty?
-LANGUAGE: English and... that's it.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: oh please do go for it. Harry is bound by an Unbreakable Vow to not reveal what he learned in Snape's memories, so those are the memories he concentrates on keeping hidden the most. If Charles wants to realize there's something about those memories (magical bonds or whatever), go for it. I don't *think* having a telepath see them would trigger death for Harry, but if Charles does peek at them, I'd like him to not just yell them out for all the world.
-NOTES: Harry's got a bit of Voldy-soul lodged in his brain that acts as a conduit between Harry and Riddle. Enjoy that!

-NOTES: Aside from his canon stuff, Spike is *very* attached to Juliet and she's the little sister he never had.

-EMPATHY: It depends on the moment! If the Master's consciously shielding himself, it'll be p. much impossible to tell how he's feeling. If it's just a normal situation, he might be able to pick up on a little. Not all of it, but a little.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Similar to the above. Being a man with mental powers himself, the Master knows the importance of keeping up a good mental shield so. Maybe just the stuff he projects? He's been a little lazy lately with that though so it's easier to get into his head right now. Honestly, just poke me about it. Prodding into the Master's head is fun. :D
-LANGUAGE: Oooh, this guy knows a shitton of languages. He's a 900+ year old alien who travels through time and space after all. The only one of real note would be Gallifreyan, his native language--because there's only two people left in the universe who speak it (him and the Doctor). Because the Doctor kind of blew up their planet. Whoops.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Go right ahead, though they're going to be confusing memories. Seventeen-ish lives, four or something bodies, 900+ years of living. Fair go with everything, though he keeps his childhood memories from when he was still a student on Gallifrey really under lock and key.
-NOTES: ...seriously trying to explain this guy would take a thousand years. He's really. Really confusing. The basics: he's a Time Lord, he's about 903 years old, he's rather psychotic, kind of evil. Oh, and important note, actually! He constantly hears a four beat drumbeat in his head. Onetwothreefour, onetwothreefour. It's been in his mind since he was eight. So Charles may pick up on that if he goes in there. Uhhh other than that either consult me or the Master's entry on wikipedia (not the TARDIS wiki, that page throws in tons of expanded universe crap that makes no sense).

-EMPATHY: Yes, until Tsuzuki realizes it's being done in some way. He's learned how to sheild off emotions due to his partner being a strong empath who can't always control the ability

-LANGUAGE: Japanese is his native tongue.. and the only one he really knows (ya Adstring magically making everyone understand eachother)

-EMPATHY: Yes, so much hatred for humans there, even when smiling and polite.

-LANGUAGE: Japanese, German, Italian, English- basically all the languages, and he communicates with animals just as easily as one person speaks to another.
-NOTES: D isn't human, but it's never really stated what he is in canon. All that's ever said is he's of a very ancient chinese race from ancient China, with a very close tie to nature. His blood can summon giant condors out of it, or grow plants when it hits the ground, bring back instinct fish to a lake, etc.
CHARACTER NAME: Undertaker(
-EMPATHY: All he might sense is creepy, really. Emotion or not, maybe some sort of amusement and something darker deep down.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: He may not want to, but feel free to find those horrors.
-LANGUAGE: Victorian English, and probably some other things.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: He is an ex-God of Death from the Victorian Era, probably a heck of a lot older than he looks, who experiemented with the dead to see if there was something after the "End" of life. Anything else would likely be spoilers for Kuroshitsuji but can be asked about if you want to get into it.
-NOTES: Undertaker tends to know a lot more than he says and speaks in rather vague ways from time to time, and has a rather morbid interest. And he likes to knit and is secretly keeping tabs on everyone in Adstring for Nat/John Mandrake, making note of potential threats and the such.

-HISTORY/MEMORIES: (optional) Normal, really. Grew up middle class in Atlanta. Went to college. Dropped out after 9/11 to join the army, met Dominic Cobb, lots of dream-sharing stuff.
-NOTES: Arthur's really in every way a normal introverted guy, there's honestly nothing weird in there to see. he's used to having people in his head as part of his job, so he's really not hiding anything, or we'd see it in Inception. So feel free to poke around. The only thing he might find is that he has a bit of a sweet spot for Ariadne...but she's not here, so it doesn't really affect anything.

-EMPATHY: Yes, though there would be the undercurrent of two separate emotions as well.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: He can talk to them directly in their mind, but anything deeper would require more effort (as they are essentially minds within a mind) and is overall just a bit confusing and I would prefer avoiding it for now if possible. If anything, perhaps the 'active' mind's thoughts could be read if they were broadcast more loudly (until they catch on to their being mind readers about).
-LANGUAGE: I would rather not at the moment, please.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: The occasional vague memory would be fine - generally I will include [reminiscing] in my tags, where they relate one thing to something they're more familiar with/remember. Feel free to have Charles pick up on those.
-NOTES: I have an information section typed up with more details as to how their consciousnesses function, and how this would impact telepathic abilities, if you have any use for it!

-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Sure, though once again, if he pokes into something Hitsugaya has particularly strong feelings about (such as his tendency to stab loved ones), Charles will be met by an angry guardian.
-NOTES: Hitsugaya is a shinigami captain, therefore he is dead, a spirit/ghost/soul/whathaveyou and noticeably older than his 4'4 appearance suggests. He also wields a sword called a zanpakutou which is inhabited by a giant ice dragon who is also an extension of Hitsugaya's soul. This is the aforementioned guardian. He won't interfere unless he decides whatever Charles is doing is detrimental to Hitsugaya's well being, in which case he'll kick Charles out and inform Hitsugaya of what's going on.

-TELEPATHY PROPER: Same here. Have at him. His thoughts come fast and are extremely analytical.

-HISTORY/MEMORIES: He can have access to them all. Most of them will not be pretty.
-NOTES: Killua was trained as an assassin from birth, which included regular torture, being electrified, consuming poison, and mass murder. More often than not, his expressions won't reflect his emotions unless he's with Gon Freecss. He's human, but he's lightning fast and has the ability to turn his aura into electricity. That might ping Charles?

-LANGUAGE: Go ahead. Assuming Japanese, perhaps one or more Chinese languages.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Have at them. They mostly involve him leaving people behind. The only problem is that a very important detail hasn't been explained as of yet in canon. Originally, he is stated to have been a different person, but something changed (it's implied he lost something important to him), and he basically gave up on everything afterward. As I don't know what that something was, the information can't be accessed. I'm just going to have to assume it was traumatizing enough that Kamui's locked it away in order to act the way he does now.
-NOTES: He's an amanto (humanoid alien) called a Yato. Extremely powerful physically, averse to sunlight, and quite insane. His only desire is to fight powerful opponents in order to grow stronger himself. He's a homicidal maniac who will antagonize those he feels are powerful until he gets what he wants, and he's not the least bit remorseful.

-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Though I don't imagine Charles will pry through it in detail, he's welcome to. Al's life is everything from a childhood in the country to absolutely nightmare-level horror. He's generally well-adjusted, optimistic and happy, but there are a lot of "how are you still sane" type memories.

-EMPATHY: Go for it. :3 Castiel does very little emoting but I bracket-spam so you should be able to tell what he's feeling; if not just ask. :3
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Castiel, though mortal at the moment, is an angel and there's a bit of a disconnect between how he thinks and how humans think. So I would say surface thoughts are a go, anything deeper might be more difficult/confusing to go through. Speaking to him telepathically is just fine!
-LANGUAGE: Castiel speaks every human language ever created, in the form it was originally in as well as modern forms (for instance he speaks ancient Hebrew and modern Hebrew, ancient Latin and reconstructed Latin, etc.) He also speaks his own native language (the language of the angels) Enochian.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: I'd want anything specific to be case by case, but like with telepathy there might be issues since he's not human. His memory is perfect and spans far before the creation of man to it might be overwhelming to look through. He's welcome to see that, just nothing particular without discussing it (it'll probably be fine, I'd just like to okay anything. :3)
-NOTES: Uh, not really, just that like mentioned he's a mortal angel. He'll be going back to full angel here relatively soon though, and his mental defenses will go way up (plus there are issues with people mentally poking at angels), so I'll probably have to amend this once that happens. >.>

-EMPATHY: No problem. Unohana is extremely honest, though, so there's little chnace it'll differ from what she's saying and showing.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Nope. Unohana has her zanpakutou, her sword spirit, in her mind, and Minazuki will kick out people who wander in there without being allowed.
-LANGUAGE: She speaks Japanese.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Why not, but most of it won't make sense at all, since almost none of the people involved are human, or in fact, alive at all.
-NOTES: Unohana is a shinigami. Soul Reaper. She is extremely old (my head canon has her losing track of just how old after she passed the second millenia because she didn't see the point in counting). Dunno if that could be felt by someone with Xavier's power.

-TELEPATHY PROPER: Sure. Hinata is a ninja, though, so if she even senses that someone is in her mind, she will try to eject them using some genjutsu techniques.
-LANGUAGE: She speaks her world's version of Japanese.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Go ahead! She had an abusive childhood, and still has a lot of self-esteem problems because of it.
-NOTES: Hinata has powers that might resembles some of Xavier's world's mutants, but are in fact relatively common in her world. They are, in fact, highly sought after.
CHARACTER NAME: Vincent Valentine.
-EMPATHY: YES! It won't be pretty. Vincent has a lot fo self-loathing and shame and death wish and all.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: Nope. Or rather, sure, try it, and meet Chaos, the entity whose genes were grafted inside Vincent and whose role is to bring about the end of the world.
-LANGUAGE: Vincent speaks a language that resembles Earth's Japanese closely enough that no translation is needed for native Japanese speakers or people with a good knowledge of the language (the language's name itself is Wutaian).
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Nope. Vincent is extremely protective of those. Barring an event, there's litle chance Chaos will let anyone in ever.
-NOTES: Vincent is technically dead, and seventy years old while biologically only twenty-seven. His powers also resemble a mish mash of mutant powers, but they were grafted into him and not genetic at first.

-EMPATHY: Um. This one is kind of complicated because in game developments (Aka, him dying) have lead to Riku becoming a Nobody as his death price. So, while it's okay if he does it, he probably won't get much. Like Kira said about Axel, his emotions will be extremely muted and will tend to lean towards the negative.
-TELEPATHY PROPER: It depends on the situation. There are times where I'd be perfectly okay with it and then there are other's where I'd rather his mind not be read. So if you ever want to do it, just drop me a line before hand and we can work it out.
-LANGUAGE: I actually head canon that because the game is primarily in Japanese and English that Riku can speak both. He can feel free to use either of them, Riku probably wouldn't even blink.
-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Yes, but be prepared for him getting extremely pissed if any of it is ever called up or brought to light.
-NOTES: Like I mentioned before, Riku's technically a Nobody, so while he acts as if everything is fine it's really not. So whatever emotions he does pick up won't match what's being shown on the outside at all.

-HISTORY/MEMORIES: This is ok, but actually might be kind of... disjointed and strange, since Mukuro has spent a lot of time in other people's bodies. Also, anything before his childhood is murky (see notes).
-NOTES: For the history bit - Mukuro claims to have been reincarnated a few times, and I'd like to keep it undecided whether that's true or not, so I'd prefer if Charles couldn't see anything that happened before his mid/late childhood. Also, for empathy and telepathy, Mukuro uses lots of lies and misdirection and rarely ever shows his true feelings. If he and Charles thread, let me know when/if Charles is reading him, and I'll make a note of what he's actually thinking or feeling!

-TELEPATHY PROPER: He can hear everything, although if Inuyasha's thinking something negative then he'll most likely just say it aloud anyway.

-HISTORY/MEMORIES: Xavier can try to see everything, although Inuyasha's past is an extremely depressing/lonely one and he'll become extremely angry if he finds out that X is learning about all of that.
-NOTES: The only time that Xavier wouldn't be able to hear Inuyasha's thoughts is if he happens to go into full-demon/crazy mode. He runs off of pure instinct and can't even be read by telepaths.
